What to Get Fired-Up About Jesus? Then help with Midland UMC’s Vacation Bible School!

The last two years, Midland UMC has organized a FANTASTIC Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the area kids. This years theme is "Avalanche Ranch" and we will be turning Midland UMC into a ranch-themed building during VBS, which will be July 28-Aug. 1.

An important part of VBS is having lots of help! It’s a week of fun, touching moments in which we really get to share the love of Jesus with kids. The first organizational meeting for VBS will be Wed., April 9th at 6:30. We invite anyone interested in helping with this summer’s VBS to just please come to the meeting! If you have questions about VBS or how you can be involved, please contact Amy Hansen at 753-2468 or Linda Henderson at 767-2628

We Need Your Help with the Easter Egg-stravaganza!

Midland UMC is hosting an Easter Egg-stravaganza! on Sun., Mar. 16, Palm Sunday. Formerly known as the Easter Egg Hunt, this is a free, community-wide event in which kids through the age of 12 can come hear the Easter story and participate in fun Easter Egg-tivities!

The Outreach Team is looking for volunteers to help. Because we anticipate that there will be snow on Palm Sunday, the Easter Egg Hunt portion of the event is being revamped and will be inside. We need people to be group leaders and help with a station. If you would like to help, please contact Amy Hansen at 753-2468 or email her at amymickelson@yahoo.com

In preparation for the Easter Egg-stravaganza!, the Outreach Team is asking people to help get things organized. If you would like to help stuff the eggs with candy and organize other aspects of the hunt, please come to Midland UMC on Thurs., Mar. 6 at 1 PM. There will be several things for people to help get organized for the hunt.

The Outreach Team is also looking for a few donations for the event. If you are interested in providing some food or a few other things, please contact Deb Hankel at 795-4332 or email her at hankel@centurytel.net We will need the donations by Sun., Mar. 9th.

Food Pantery News

Due to the strong support we received during 2007 from our churches, last year was an extremely successful one for the Christians In Action Community Food Pantry.

In 2006, we served 268 people. During 2007 we served an additional 135 people who had never been to our food pantry before, thereby serving over 400 people in 2007. In serving these 400 plus individuals, we handed out over 39,000 pounds of food and supplies. What a blessing it was to those who worked at the Food Pantry to be able to reach our and bless those who are in need in our communities.

In addition to the food and supplies you contributed, your financial generosity helped the Food Pantry cover all of its expenses for the year. Our churches contributed almost $5,200 which was used to purchase food to supplement the food given by the churches, the Boy Scouts, and the schools.

We were also able to help the Sauk and Spring Green Food Pantries when Sunny Industries closed and placed additional strain on those areas.

2008 is a new year, and with the increase in food prices, the cost of gasoline, and the shaky economy, we expect the need in our community to increase. Please continue to give as you are able so that others will continue to receive the support they need in their difficult times. In supporting our Food Pantry, we truly are fulfilling Jesus' call in Mark 8:34 - "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me."

Again, thank you!
