MIDLAND NEWSLETTER

One Spiritual Goal for 2010

JANUARY 2010 EDITION     VOLUME 2, ISSUE 1

Whether you make New Year’s resolutions or not, the beginning of January is a time for natural reflection. A time to look back at the past year or period of time and think about the good things and challenges we’ve endured. It’s also a time when we ponder the future.

FURNITURE NEEDED FOR YOUTH GROUP

Midland is starting a Youth Group and would love donated furniture: couches, chairs (not folding chairs, but the comfy ones!) and oversized pillows.

If you do have an item to donate, please contact Myhia Chapman at 608-469-8506.

 HAITI

United Methodist Committee on Relief-UMCOR

During this time of pain and suffering, let us take comfort in the promise of Psalm 46:1, NSRV: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has already organized relief efforts for the people of Haiti.  UMCOR has a local precence in Haiti, although not all of the UMCOR folks in Haiti have been accounted for.  Additional UMCOR people are going to Haiti to provide assistance.

Midland will get contributions to UMCOR:  If you would like to make financial contribution to UMCOR for Haiti relief efforts, you can do so through Midland's offering plate.  Please designate this as "Haiti relief - UMCOR Advance #418325."

Another option is to donate directly to UMCOR online at http://secure.gbgm-umc.org/donations/umcor/donate.cfm?code=418325&id=3018760

Please remember that 100% of monies donated to UMCOR go towards relief efforts.

Communications continues to provide news coverage of the situation in Haiti, including how the church is responding, at www.umc.org/haiti.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Need of Prayers? Please Contact our Prayer Chain Coordinator Joyce Clampitt at 608-798-2916.

We have a prayer chain that calls various volunteers who will immediately begin to pray for the person(s) that we have received a prayer request for. If the person(s) would like, we will also add them to our prayer request list that is found in the Sunday bulletin so that the entire congregation can lift up those in needs of prayers.

Midland's Book Club

Monthly Book Club - Second Thursday of the Month

During 2010, Pastor Dianne will be trying to offer a regular book study each month on the second Thursday of the month.

In advance, Dianne will post the book and a little information about the book.  She will make copies of the book available for purchase.  People who are interested in participating in the study are also encouraged to contact the local library about getting a copy through the library system so that they do not have to purchase a book unless he/she would prefer their own copy.

January 13, we had some great discussion about the book "Have a Little Faith" by Mitch Albom.  Mitch had also wrote the popular nonfiction book "Tuesdays with Morrie."

February book club - We have not finalized our selected book yet, but will post it on the web page as soon as we do.  So please check back if you are interested in joining us.
